Philanthropy

"SeriousFun Children's Network provides a safe summer camp experience for children with serious illnesses and life threatening conditions. Founded in 1988 by DKA alumnus Paul Newman, the society adopted SeriousFun Children's Network as its national philanthropy in 2012. Since then, DKA members have supported the camps through philanthropy and service." (Source: www.seriousfunnetwork.org)

Proceeds from our events such as the RomCom 24 Hour Film Challenge, Headshot Fundraiser, and Oscar Party go to SeriousFun.

The Tompkins County Public Library has partnered with us to host a series of screenings and discussion events for all community members to enjoy.

A highlighted event from this series is our discussion of The Cuckoo. Dr. Benjamin Rifkin, Professor of Modern Languages and Literature at Ithaca College, joined us to preface and hold a post-viewing discussion of the 2002 Russian film.

"The Ithaca Fantastik film festival is a five day film, art, and music festival that takes place [yearly] over the third weekend of November in Ithaca, NY. [Their] mission is to bring the best of fantastic culture to upstate New York by presenting a selection of the most anticipated international films, community organized concerts and diverse art exhibitions."       Our members volunteer to work at the festival by hosting Q&A sessions, running social media pages, taking pictures, tabling and selling merchandise, as well as providing transportation to some of the directors to and from events.
